Coolant Leak '99 986

Hello,

First time asking for help, I have been reading and benefiting from this community for years, thank you.

On my commute yesterday morning, taking the long way, back roads and good scenery, at a stop light I noticed temp gauge spiked, red light flashing, "smoke" billowing out of passenger side vent, I ducked into a parking lot and turned the car off. Significant amount of coolant was dripping from what I would say the center of the car. Got it home thanks to a AAA flat bed and began my assessment.

I pulled the rear carpets out and confirmed that all was dry in the trunk, the expansion tank does look in good shape, it has the .04 cap. I then removed the inner bulk head engine cover and noticed a good amount of coolant collected under the water pump. The water pump itself is dry to the touch, no residue.

Is the next step to get the car on stands and remove under cladding to check hoses? I did some research and did not come across any mention of hoses failing or coming loose.

107K miles 986 base 5spd, new to me, previous owner claims previous owner changed expansion tank and water pump.

Any additional insight is appreciated.

Pressure test your cooling system to see if and where you may have a leak.

Thank you...

Did pressure test and no pressure. I can hear the gurgling sound but no obvious air leak and no obvious more coolant leaking.

How do I confirm that the water pump is good or bad?

Found the leak...

Split hose that runs under the intake from one side to the other, about 24" long and 5/16" inner diameter.

Will replace it, add coolant, ensure no air bubbles, and will report back if that fixed it.
