Water Pump Question - 2003 986

I bought a 2003 986 in 2017 with only 44000 miles. It worried me at first to buy a low mileage car, but I bit the bullet and took a chance.

After buying the car, a week later I had to replace the water pump. I was also told that these cars usually have them changed around 40,000 miles. I did not think much of it, so I changed it with the kit from Pelican with the lower thermostat. I also replaced the belt because it was most likely the original.

Now it is 2019, almost exactly 2 years later and the car has 95,000 miles on it. (yes, it is a daily driver and I bought it to drive) and I am starting to hear a squeak that I believe is the water pump. Its not leaking, nor the car over heating, and it is very slight.

Should a water pump go that soon? Like I said 2 years and I have put over 50,000 miles on the car. Or am I overlooking something?

Could be the idler that keeps the belt tight as well.

I will second that assessment. There are two idlers, one fixed, one spring loaded.

Regardless of the noise source I would replace the water pump.

You bought a car with 44K miles.. it now has 95k miles.. math would dictate if its a 40K mile lifespan for a water pump, that its time to replace again. Would seem like simple preventative measure to make sure you can enjoy the car for another 50K miles.

IIRC, motor mounts were another item that tended to go bad around the 40K mile mark too... maybe check them while you're at it.
