AOS hose clip advice

Any advice on the best way to open, move, and secure that bugger pinch clamp on the bent rubber hose that comes off the bottom of the AOS and goes to the crank? I have installed the new AOS but am struggling to secure the hose to the crank case attachment. Man hands and pliers not getting it done.

I use a thick quality worm drive type hose clamp & long screwdriver.

Toss the supplied OE clamp.

If I recall, I came up thru the bottom of the wheel arch and used a metal hose clap to secure it.

When replacing an old AOS, you can just yank the bellows loose, no messing with the spring clamp. Amazon or Pelican sell a replacement spring clamp with a plastic thingy that holds the clamp open--a really nice little tool. Worth the price of the replacement clamp (because you can use it on other spring clamps.) https://www.amazon.com/Separator-Boot-Clamp-Porsche-Boxster/dp/B00AYMUT5U/ref=pd_bxgy_263_img_2/147-4132863-2908364?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00AYMUT5U&pd_rd_r=56c845df-faa9-47fc-8b00-90b4393921ee&pd_rd_w=IUDPb&pd_rd_wg=nTAiA&pf_rd_p=a2006322-0bc0-4db9-a08e-d168c18ce6f0&pf_rd_r=5CQDXK7HRNZ4X5F27YNK&psc=1&refRID=5CQDXK7HRNZ4X5F27YNK

when I replaced my AOS on my Boxster, when I had it, the new one came with a little blue clip with a ring on the end holding the clamp open. The parts guy told me to never lose the blue clip because I will need it again some time and it would be the most valuable item in my tool box. He was right a few weeks later when I needed to remove the AOS for another problem I encountered.

Thanks for the advice all. Looking at new clamp option as advised by Brian in Tucson suggests. AOS replacement is a 5 minute job. Securing the clamp...hours...

It's one of those amazing little discoveries. I wonder if they use them at the Porsche factory to get those GOSH DANG hose clamps on the hoses for the coolant reservoir?

Little Blue Hose Clip

I had the same idea as everyone else. Save that little blue piece of strange plastic. It sounded so simple, so obvious.

And it is. Until you attempt to reload a spring clamp into it, that is!

Before you begin - Wear your safety glasses (maybe gloves, too). Get out every pair of pliers, vise grips, channel locks, vises, etc, you will need them all. Do it outside (you should probably stay away from pets and small children). If you do it on a wide driveway, the clamp will be much easier to find.

If you are really serious about your bottom AOS hose clamp buy a spare (or two), with the blue clip. Plan "C" (or "D") or whatever. Buy a band style screw clamp and tighten it as tight as you can. I recommend a short-handled 5/16" nut driver.

I may be a little late to the posts but there is a tool sold for the purpose of removing and installing these type of hose clamps. I found the special hose clamp pliers on Amazon after spotting them in another forum (Cayman Register).Look for Astro Pneumatic Tool 9409A Hose Clamp Pliers. Once you learn how to set the tool it can then be used to hold the hose clamp in the "open" position while locating the clamp on the hose. Once it the desired location you release the locking lever and the hose remains in the desired location. The cost for the clamp is $31. Well worth the investment if you keep your Cayman/Boxster and want to install the AOS on your own.

I have one of the cheap, chinese knockoffs of this tool. Worked for the spring clamps on the rear coolant hoses. But it needed to be resoldered. The blue tool is available from Amazon with the spring clamp pre loaded. For $6 or $7. And it made it easier. BTW, I've had no trouble reloading the blue tool with other spring clamps. Spring clamps work well for me, they don't over clamp or under clamp. So they don't easily pull off or cut the hose or bellow being installed.

Now if the assemblers at Porsche would put the damned thing on so you could easily reach the teeth on the clamps to compress it. I suspect there's an assembly reason for putting them on upside down.
