Found a Cayman for sale, worth it?
A quick question for Cayman owners if you all don't mind. I had found a 2007 Cayman S for sale nearby at a dealership. It's got about 130k miles on it and its listed for $12,500. Is this car worth it at this mileage? As owners, what have you experience in terms of maintenance, problems, and procedures for DIYers? I feel like the prices could either be too good to be true, or too good to pass up.

Caymans are easy to DIY on. But...
That's a lot of miles for a Porsche. It could be way behind on maint, which could run up several thousand dollars in parts. A set of tires alone is $1K. Same if you have to buy a clutch. You might ask for a CarFax and see how many times it's been hit. Not sure what your plans are for this one. If you bring all the maint back up to snuff and try to sell it, you'll have a hard time b/c Porsche buyers like lower mileage cars (generally under 100K mi) with no accident history. If you plan to keep it, by the time you get done buying parts for it, you'll be w/in $5K of what a nice, low mileage one would sell for. I buy and sell Boxsters and Caymans for a hobby, along with owning one of each. This one would not fit my model for purchasing. But there's a guy on BAT who sells lots of high mileage Porsches that sometimes have accident history. To each his own. You have to ask yourself - why is it so low? Dealers aren't dumb, they know what they've got. Dealers like to advertise base models as an S. This one would be priced more like a base. Check the 5th digit of the VIN - it should be a B if it's an S. Good luck with your decision.
