986 locks and unlocks itself then turns on the flashers

Hey guys,

I know I have a post similar to this but I have more information that might help others.

The 01 986 I have will lock and unlock the doors at random times, but mostly within a minute of start-up or just pulling away. Once it does its little lock-unlock and turns the hazards on, it won't allow the central locking button on the dash work. The car still runs, and the alarm horn doesn't sound.

Sometimes, at a red light, I can turn the car off, open the driver's door, shut it and restart it; the car won't do the lock-unlock for most of the time on the drive.

Starting to think it could be the driver's door lock micro switch, but wanted to see if someone could explain more about how the alarm works, or how to test the microswitches.

Also, will the Durametric kit test the alarm system?

Thanks, guys,

Brian :)

I had trouble with my key, try cleaning it out and putting in a new battery. My car wouldn't start, would crank a lot until I realized if I squeezed the key, everything worked.

Ignition switch going bad causes lots of gremlins

The ignition switch is the next thing on my list, figured it wouldn't hurt a nearly 20-year-old car with 200,000 plus miles! LOL

Do both the driver and passenger windows drop properly when opening the doors? If so, I believe you’ve just tested the micro switches.

Check to see if your carpet is damp under the driver's seat.... Your symptoms are typical of an alarm module that has gotten wet.
