P2097 fault code
Folks
Looking to see if anyone has seen this before. My cayman (2008 base) popped a CEL over the holiday break. Took it to the shop and it was P2097 "Post catalyst fuel trim system too rich bank 1". He could not find any problems so we cleared the code and now have about 50 miles without a re-occurrence. Since too rich just hurts fuel economy and I don't have to re-smog for another 20 or so months it does not seem to be too urgent or scary, but I don't like not knowing the cause, so if anyone has seen this before, please let me know what your experience was. Thanks Ted |
Post cat too rich says that the cats are not functioning to clean up the exhaust.
Any mods? Recent work? How many miles? Inspected the plugs recently? |
Mods:
- the PO had this exhaust on that i just removed (https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-boxster-cayman-996-997-parts-sale-wanted/1049777-s-s-exhaust-100-shipping.html) Miles: 90k Plugs: No, not sure if the mechanic pulled them to look, I will ask Monday. I would think that if the aftermarket (loud) exhaust could flow better. that would more likely make the car run leaner rather than richer though. Its back to stock now anyway (wife said the other was too loud). I plan to pull and replace the air filter in a week or two in case its dirty, just haven't had time to get anything done with the holidays. That said, I would have expected that even with a dirty air filter, a modern MAF would allow the computer to adjust the mixture. Hope this does not mean I will need a new Cat Ted |
Plugs have not been inspected, so it looks like I just wait to see if it happens again. As a software engineer I am quite familiar with the "reboot and see if it happens again" form of debugging
