2007 Boxster shift lock

Brand new Porsche owner and working out the newbie wrinkles. I removed my battery to charge it and the hood managed to close and latch. Worked through the suggestions to power the hood release through the fuse box but cannot get it to work. My wheel lock tool is in the trunk so I can't remove the front wheel to pull the emergency release. Two questions. First, does the battery need to be connected to power the fuse box using an extra battery? Just wondering why it won't work for me. Second, is there a shift lock release to put the car in neutral to get it up on a flat bed and off to the shop. The key is locked in the ignition as well. Seem to be learning things the hard way! Thanks for any help...

I would get a loaner wheel key lock and get the wheel off, they are quite common and a dealer or indy shop may have a spare. once you get the wheel off, remove plastic wheel lining toward front on right. there is a pull line to open the frunk. I would have a needle nose plier available. also, on other Cayman forums, there are some that state a cigarette plug charger should work, and of course in the manual it has a solution use a 12v source to apply to fuse box posts to enable opening the hood...good luck.....I left a phone charger plugged in three weeks with the car covered when I was overseas...……………...

Spoke with local Porsche shop and they confirmed that the battery must be hooked up for the fuse box jump method to work. Had the car towed to the shop and without pulling the wheel were able to access the emergency latch and pop the hood. Bill was less than $100. I'll put this one in the win column...

Every time I take the battery out, I stick a small piece of rubber that I have in the hood latch. It CAN’T close. Imagine even a rag would work...

You can also click the latch closed on the hood while it's open, so it cannot latch if hood drops.

Another method to getting into the trunk with a dead battery.

On my 2002 Boxster S, if I pull the red terminal out and hook power to it, it does not work. However I found that if I take a normal electric test light probe and attach my 12+ to the sharp pointed tip of the probe, I can touch the open spot on the tops of the proper fuse and that did work to energize the front trunk solenoid even with a dead battery. One of these days I think i would like to install a reg pull cable that connects where the emergency cable goes to the front latch, but position the T-handle under the dash
