Lug Nuts
I was at the local Porsche dealership "Leith" in Raleigh over the weekend looking at 1999 and 2000 used Boxters.
All of sudden my eyes focused on the Lug nuts on the front wheels of these cars. They were all very rusty and the locking lug nut was the worst. I assume they are lug nuts they may be bolts like the 66 Beetles. Anyway , what are these coated with ? I would have expected aluminum nuts but they look to be steel with just paint on them. They do not look to be powder coated or anonized or any other long term solution. Don

They are lug bolts and this is a common problem. They are steel painted silver. The dealer may replace them if the car is still under warranty. Jeff

Had the same problem on our car, out of warranty. Nothing that four jack stands and a can of aluminum spray paint wouldn't fix, though.

Thanks for the replies. I never liked lug bolts. I hated them on the 66 Beetle, they were always freezing on even with anti sieze.
I suppose Porsche has their reason for using them. It kind of surprises me that the dealer didn't touch them up before showing them on the lot. But than at least it shows they are not hiding anything. The used ones are certainly getting affordable and the money I can save over a new Boxter will certainly pay for a can of silver spray paint. And I like the hardtop option I saw on two of them. May not be something one needs South of the Mason Dixon line, but it sure fits nice and looks real good on the Boxter. -Don B
