2000 Tip stuck in limp mode

Hello everyone, I have a 2000 Boxster with tiptronic trans. that has had shift problems before that I traced down to a bad output speed sensor. Car ran for about 11 months without a problem then all of a sudden I had problem getting the car to shift past 2nd gear. It would flash the 4th gear and D and go into limp mode. After driving the car and turning key off after the flashing lights would go on several times it would clear the problem then it would shift fine until one day it would not shift past 2nd gear, stays in limp mode. Tranny has about 170k with engine replaced about 12k miles ago. I have replaced the TCU (used) and all solenoid set and input and output sensors, fluid, internal wire harness and still get a no output signal code. Signal is there when car is parked but apparently is not received by TCU when car is moving. I do seem to hear a click of some kind before tranny goes into limp mode that is barely audible. Does this sound like the clutches are gone and I need to swap the tranny or am I missing some other procedure? Also when I try to shift with manual mode it will not shift past 2nd as well. Thanks in advance

I wasn't able to find this exact issue discussed on this forum - I would highly recommend posing this question in our 986 Forum. I have no doubt that someone has ran unto this issue and will be able to assist. Hope this helps you out a bit.

I also had this happen on my old 2000! By the time I added up the costs for a rebuild, it was cheaper to buy a used TIP and swap them. I put another 20,000 miles and a coast to coast road tip on the car and trans before getting another Porsche.

Brian :)

Disconnect battery for an hour - worked for my 08 987 w/tip
