2001 Boxster anniversary/special edition?

Hi Folks is anybody aware of a special edition Boxster for 2001? Somebody locally advertising one.

Thanks, Joe

The only special edition in the 986 line was the 2004 550 SE.

Sounds like your seller is telling a tall one. But it happens, just like they'll tell you it has full leather, bi-xenon headlights and power seats. There are also more Black Editions in the 987 & 981 versions for sale than Porsche produced, and not all of them are even black.

Get a picture of the sticker inside the front hood.

Then go to this order form from 2001 and see what it was built with. https://sites.google.com/site/mikefocke2/focke%27s2001s%22buildsheet%22

Low miles is not necessarily a good thing especially if limited maintenance. Bearing sit in old oil, every start has the valve train dry, tires are old, rubber parts are old. AOS, Oil fill tube, engine/trans mounts. Battery age. wiper blades age. Top condition. And it is too cold to test the top without it being in a heated space for a while.

So a PPI is strongly recommended even if the cosmetics look excellent.

Is it a base or an S?

It could be $7-15k depending but those are US prices. Right time to be buying.

+1 what Mike says. Plus the ‘01’s were the start of the single row IMS and among the years with the highest failure rate. Negotiate a price that reflect a replacement with the LNE bearing. Allow at least 2k, more if it needs a clutch. Mileage alone doesn’t rule out a new clutch. Even if 1/2 worn I’d replace while there and know what you have. Add 1k for clutch.

another nit item.. iirc, my 2000 had the hvac controls up on the dashboard and allowed for easy delete of the lower console (GT3 delete) which netted me more knee room. I think in 2001, they put cupholders in that place and moved the HVAC controls to sit in front of the gearshift.
