Just remember one simple rule of thumb on making more power with these cars: It is going to cost way more than you think it will, way more.

It's probably cheaper to buy a more powerful car than to add power.
IE: a Box S is 2-3K more than a similar Box but with 50+ more hp and a better suspension and brakes. A sport exhaust on a Box is 2K without install and you get what, 10 hp? |

We had a customer that installed a turbo engine out of a wrecked 996TT into a 986 Boxster; by the time he was done, he had a tire shredding monster that actually cost him more than it would have if he had gone to the dealer and purchased a loaded new 996TT. Sometimes the view just ain't worth the climb..............

Stop and think all the engineering that goes into the engine control logic to maintail the right air/fuel mixture for all conditions. Then alter one of the designed for parameters, pick either aif flow, exhaust back pressure, etc. Now is that software load going to be optimized for your mods? The answer is always heck no. Now if you have a dyno and unlimited time on it and can afford the time to play with all the parameters then maybe you can find a combination of settings that might work better than stock. An expert on Porsche engines takes days and between each run he then has to go out in the real world and see how drive-able it is there, then back for another iteration of the coding, dyno, real world and on and on.
