2006 Boxster S PPI
Hi guys, I'm in the market for a 987 Boxster S and I found one that is in relatively great condition. Only thing the guy doing the PPI found was that a fender, bumper and the headlights were replaced at some point and the front end was resprayed. It seems that the car was in an accident but otherwise looks and runs great now. How much should I expect that to effect the value?
As it stands the car is a 2006 Boxster S with 52K miles and has the following options: Self-dim mirrors and rain sensor Bi-xenon headlamp package sport shifter heated front seats 19" carrera wheels porsche windstop automatic climate control sport chrono package w/o PCM Bose surround sound Remote cd changer The guy wants $19k. Does the accident affect that price? |

What about carfax? What was the insurance damage amount? Is it a salvage title? If it is relatively cosmetic repairs the damage won’t affect price as listed in my view.

The accident affects the price if you make it affect the price. Meaning this car would be a unclean carfax and that would normally affect the price. But the next buyer may not even know to look and you could be outbid.
Ask if there is any documentation about how and when it was repaired? I slid into a pickup while blinded by the sun and thought my repairs would be $3-5k. The great body shop stopped counting at $26k and insurance totaled it. I'm sure it when to some cheaper location and got rebuilt but how good a job did they do? The devil is in the details. Bargain and see if you can do better. The car is priced in a very-good condition range now. Is it? |

If I came across a good clean mid-mileage 987.1 Boxster that the motor passed a good PPI, all for under $20k in the current Porsche resale market....... Well, that would definitely get a spot in the barn/shop.
That's quite a low entry cost for what is arguably one of the most satisfying analog 2-seat convertible sports cars of all time. So much for so little! Sent from my SM-G988U using Tapatalk |

How long ago did the accident occur? If it was recent, that could be a red flag. If it was yrs ago and many miles from now, then it may not be as much of an issue.
2nd, what are your plans for the car? Is this a spur of the moment purchase that you don't plan to keep long term? If so, the accident will have an effect on the next purchaser. Most potential Porsche buyers don't like accident vehicles. Why do you think he has it priced $4K under value in a currently hot mkt? Because he has to discount the price to get someone to buy it. If your plan is to keep it a long time and you don't care about driving a car that's had a quality repair, then good for you. But keep in mind a 2 seater sports car is a lifestyle vehicle. If your lifestyle changes - get married, have kids, get divorced, get downsized, downsize from retirement - can suddenly impact your desire to keep it. That's why Boxsters and Caymans tend to have multiple owners. It's bought on a whim and suddenly they realize a 2 seater is too impractical for their life. If that's your situation, you will take a bath trying to sell it so soon after purchasing. People will wonder why you're selling so soon. You might have a legitimate reason, but they will wonder if the accident is playing a big part in the reason. And finally, how does the repaint look? Have you seen the car in sunset light? That's when you'll see the mismatch of colors. Silvers & grays are the hardest to match, followed by red. You don't want to spend $20K on a car and have the front stick out like a sore thumb. I'm not saying don't buy it, I'm saying tread carefully and consider ALL the things that will go into the purchase of this car.
