03 convertible top

Hi all
The 03 convertible top still will not collapse low enough for the clamshell to close. I’ve taken it apart the boomerang to check lines and it’s good. Adjusted connections off boomerang but nothing helped. Closed looks good but warning light on. Down starts ok but doesn’t collapse enough to get clamshell closed. Pushing down on the top when down doesn’t feel like there’s more to give.

I found the problem. The gear in the top transmission cracked in half. Ordered one and took out the transmission. Took it apart to replace it. No problem until lining up the 4 posts to the four inside gears. I think that since the gears don’t spin but go back and forth they wear differently. So I change a gear by only a couple of teeth and eventually the right spacing showed up and the part dropped in. Line up the two sides now works great. But I’m hearing sounds from the left side. Ones on order.

How do you add photos from your phone. URL? What?/Users/jamesw.penland/Desktop/IMG_1499.jpeg/Users/jamesw.penland/Desktop/IMG_1499.jpeg/Users/jamesw.penland/Desktop/IMG_1527.jpeg

I tried to get these photos on this message to help out but it seems impossible. I've got them on other sites but not this one. Email me and I'll send them to you that care. J

Good job on figuring it out and sharing the results!
