Bought a 2014 Cayman, tire question
Just bought a 981 Cayman the tires are worn out will be getting new ones. Has Pirelli P zero tires now. When I turn the wheel all the way in either direction at slow speed in the driveway the tires jump or skip, is this normal? Is it this type of tire? The tires are old, they are the original ones 10 years old. I’m thinking of replacing the tires with Michelin pilot all season 4.

You don't say how or where the car will be used so suggestions will be based on the posters use/experience and may not project to yours well.

I got the Michelin’s today, what a big difference.
I’ve never had used tires act like these did, very noisy and a bit wobbly when cold better as I drove a mile but still noisy. |

tire rack has a tire comparison tool so you can input your driving needs. I ended up with Continental all season for my 06 Cayman. They are so quiet, have great handling, long life, and have such good wet traction. No more skidding or wump wump wump from the old Michelin summer tires. I think Michelin A/S tires will give similar results.

If you are running 20 inch wheels the noise you hear is normal in that situation. 20 inch wheels are maximum for the 981 Cayman.

Totally normal to have this “tire scrubbing”. I think I even saw an official scientific term for it once; the “xxxxxx effect”.
