Brand new Air Oil Separator Failed!?

I had my AOS replaced about 6 months ago, and it failed again this morning. I assume the shop is going to adjust the price for having to do it again. But any thoughts on this? How could a new one fail so quickly? Is there anything the engine can do that can weaken the AOS or cause it to fail?

I did replace it once before myself. Probably 15+ years ago.

One actual cause is overfilling the oil. More likely is that they used an aftermarket part. I seem to read a lot about the aftermarket AOS failing a lot sooner than the Porsche part.

Thanks!

FYI, this is a high mileage, well cared for 2000 S.

Update. I called the shop. They did not replace the external AOS earlier this year. They replaced an internal AOS. So it looks like an old fashioned, old AOS failure. What a bummer.

I got this AOS from the Porsche dealer directly, probably about 15 years ago.

So sorry for the misdirection.

What’s an internal AOS?

The two can like structures in the corners of the sump, they help remove the air from the oil returning to the sump.

Me too! I didn't know that it had an internal oil separator.
