New / replacement parts, coding?

981 Cayman

I’m searching the net for info on how to work on this car and I see talk about having to use scanners to code new parts to the car, like batteries, seat motors, rear rotors, ect. Is this correct and if so other than the factory PIWIS what do I need to do this. I do see info about using Durametric and other brands but not sure if these will do this task.

Multiple parts, mostly electronic modules, need to be coded to the car as different cars may have different options. Coding requires the use of a PIWIS system.

So for most tasks a Durametric is perfectly fine? Specifically, for the three he cited is even it needed?

And for a very few you can go to a dealer or an independent that has invested in the expensive PIWIS or PST2 and can justify its cost over the many cars that go through the shop. It would be prohibitive for a one car mechanic?

Not anymore. You can get them for a fairly inexpensive price if you look around. [emoji6]
