knocking sound inside engine
I'm looking to buy a '97 that has had front-end damage (fixed, but not perfect), maybe has an alignment issue and a knocking noise from inside the engine when the RPMs approach 3K. It sounds like my old lawn mower when the lower end of the connecting rod became loose. At that time, I took apart the lawnmower motor, tightened the nuts holding the rod to the crankshaft and all was fine, but it was only a lawnmower. This simple fix would cost $2-$3K on a Porsche if only the problem is just this simple.
The service rep at my local dealer told me to pay no more the 9K for the car based upon what I've told you. He did emphasize that I should pass and look for a better car because it could get very expensive. Also, I think the car will need a clutch soon. The clutch peddle action seems not normal as if there is a problem with the pressure plate. Has anyone heard about this noise/knocking issue? thanks |
how many miles?
maybe the sound is a precursor to the infamous C.E.F. ??? i would run away... |
68K miles. What is C.E.F. ?

Run away. There are too many low cost Boxsters out there. If you can't find a Boxster snatch up a 13k SC. The cost of repair should stop you from a car that sounds like has been driven hard. Find one thats been pampered. Run away.

Big difference between a lawnmower and a Boxster...
For a few extra $$$ you should be able to find a nice one without mechanical issues. Just my $0.02. |
Catastrophic
Engine Failure |
I read through a thread that advises only getting a Boxster built after 1999 … too many $$$ for me now, so I'll stay with the original plan and get a 911.
thanks everyone |
