				 | Looking for a Boxster in LA
Hey guys! This is my first post. I've been saving for a Boxster for a long time, and my time has finally come. Living in Canada, I'm going to do what all smart Canucks do, and travel to the U.S. to find my automotive soulmate. I have a couple of questions for you Boxster guys in the LA area, and would appreciate your help. 1) Does anyone know a shop that really knows Boxsters ? (to perform a Pre-Purchase Inspection) 2) Do newer Boxsters in the US come with day-time running lights? If so, which was the first year?? Has anyone ever performed a conversion to day-time running lights?? (Sorry for the question, but the folks at Canada Customs were pretty adamant about an imported car having day time running lights!) Any ideas on a good LA shop that could do a conversion?? 3) What are some good sources for finding out about used Boxsters for sale in LA? I've been checking MSNAuto.com and Cars.com on the internet, but what about Newspapers, or specific used vehicle publications in the LA area?? Thanks again for the help!! P.S. For all those LA Kings fans out there, I was rooting for you guys to make the playoffs all season!! Good luck next year!

The dealers have plenty of them and offer a warranty which may be good at other Pcar dealers. They are discounting them, so don't be afraid to walk away more than once. I CA, it's bad news for a dealer to sell a lemon. If you get a 2000 sold later than April 2000, it's still under factory warranty. You ought to know the car pretty well by the time you get home.

My 2003 BOxster S (USA version) does not have runing lights. That is probably the only complaint I have about the car.

Hey Dannov, My brother sent me this link on Daytime Running light conversion. It looks like about 5 min and $5 worth of parts will do the job! http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/mods/drl/ I don't know if this works, but if you try it, let me know! Does anyone know a good shop for a pre purchase Porsche inspection?? When in California, I'm gonna be in the Mission Viejo area, but will be driving a rental so I can get around anywhere in the LA and surrounding areas. Which would be good dealerships to start with? Are there any places I should avoid (ie. bad rep)??? Thanks again guys

Hey Nut, go down to Newport Porsche in NP Beach. Better yet, call them from home and ask about available inventory. Sometimes they have cars in the pipeline that aren't out. They have an 800 no.

Zeke! Thanks for the tip!! I'm gonna be staying in Mission Viejo when I come down, and I'm looking for a shop that is fairly close by. Is Newport Porsche probably my best bet for a pre-purchase inspection?? JON

Not necessarily. There are a number of Porsche shops in the Orange county area. Post this over on the the 911 forum, or better yet, do a search on PPI's in Orange County. Andial is just up the road, that would be my first recommendation. They told me recently that they now do water pumpers. Thing is, you probably will end up at a sho close to the seller. It has been pointed out to use a diifernet shop rather than the one shown on the majority of the receipts on the car. That would probably put Andial back at the top of the list because they are hard to get into; they're that busy.

Thanks for the tip Zeke! I have another question. Do I have to pay taxes if I'm from out of state (or out-of country for that matter)?? What is the sales tax rate in California?? JON

I don't know about sales tax. I do know the dealer will charge you the tax rate of your county of residence, regardless of what county you buy the car. If you don't live in CA, it stands to reason that you're exempt. But, I don't know. Edit: Boxsternut, you have a PM. Last edited by Zeke; 04-16-2004 at 04:16 PM.. | ||
