Need help indentifying model year

I found this car on Autotrader. . The ads says it's a 2001 model but the shift knob looks like that of 97-98 model. Do I understand it correctly? The price seems fair but if it's fishy I won't bother to go look at the car. Thanks.

It does look like a 1997-1999 standard shift knob, but the VIN is for a 2001. Plus in 2001 the base Boxster got a 3 spoke steering wheel. It also has the style of cup holders that started in 2001.

Parts get swaped. My 1997 has parts from different years. My shift knob came off a 996 that a friend traded in. My steering wheel is from a 2000 S. And so on.

The three spoke steering wheel says its newer than '99. I agree with Tool Pants on his assesment.

That makes sense. I forgot about the steering wheel and didn't check the VIN. Thank you!
