I have a 1997 Boxster (not S model or turbo) with a manual transmission, in the garage and the shifting went from perfect to sloppy all at once. Have any of you experienced this problem? Please contact me if there is anything that you can do to help. Thank you for your time.

Is this a dupe post to the one I just replied to? Any rate:
I had a similar experience with my 03. About 3 days later, the entire mechanism on top of the trans (where the cables connect) fell to pieces. Not too much fun...

Mine went the same. I could only get 3rd and 4th. It was the cable mechanism at rearmost of gearbox. A linkage had fallen off its ball joint. Really simple fix

Did you both need to replace the whole top or just parts of it?

For mine the entire mechanism was replaced, and new cables were installed.
