Service history
I recently bought a 2000 Boxster, but unfortunately I have no service history on the car. I thought I could just call my local dealer to get the history, but he says Porsche doesn't yet have a networked service system so the service history exists only with each dealer (unbelievable). So I suppose I need to try and find the dealer(s) where the car has been serviced in the past.
I can see from AutoCheck that it was originally leased in Long Beach, but I don't have a dealer name. Does anyone know if any other type of system exists to track service history? Does anyone know how many Porsche dealers are in Long Beach? I guess I could go through the yellow pages and call them all, but that seems pretty silly. Does anyone know of any shortcuts? By the way, I have several more weeks worth of free and unlimited AutoCheck VIN searches, so if anyone needs one ran just PM me and I will send you the report. Thanks |

Thom,
I know how you feel about maintaining accurate records, I'm like that too. However, since you already own it you may end up picking up the trail yourself. I have my records from 12K and the car currently has 21K. I'd like to have them from zero, but the car is rock solid, so I'm not sure it's as important as the quality of the vehicle you bought and your desire to keep it nice..

Service history, like an oil change is kept only by the dealer doing the work. Warranty and recall work is networked and any dealer can pull it out of the computer with a VIN.
You should see if there are any dealer stamps in the book, but I don't think they have stamped books in years. |
