Front Latch Problem
Hey Guys, for some reason my front latch stopped working. I can no longer open the front trunk. What could have caused this?
When you pull the unlock lever, you can kind of hear it unlock, however the hood no longer pops up and you cannot lift it. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks all! |
If this a Boxster then there is a spring on the latch. Might be broken. I think you should still be able to stick your fingers in there and lift it up.
|
Yeah at first I was able to do that, but now it is completely shut and will not lift at all. How much does this spring usually run?
Thanks for your reply by the way |
Do you really think Porsche would sell just a spring.
If this is your problem then you buy another latch. |
hahahahah you got me there buddy.
Okay well now how would I go about removing the spring if the front does not open? Is there an emergency open or a place where I can access the cord? THanks again |
There is an emergency release behind the front plastic wheel well liner on the passenger side. It is sometimes hard to find.
|
Awesome. Thanks Tools Pants, is this behind the wheel itself or under the carpeting somewhere in the footwell.
|
This is located on the outside...... of the vehicle. You're thinking on the inside.....
Lift the car pull the wheel well liner back and you should be able to find it... If I was close by I would be able to swing it for you from the outside "sometimes" this can be done from the front..... -Eli |
Oh okay gotcha, I'll give it a try. Thanks for the help guys, i'll update you later on how it goes.
Oh Eli, since I've got you here, I don't see the latch mechanism listed on Pelican for sale, if mine truly is the culprit, do you guys stock it and how much of course? Thanks buddy! alex |

I'm really looking forward to the "Beefing-up" of the 996 and the 986 areas. I'm sure I have a lot of input being a fellow owner. Let me know if you do need something there, I'll get you pricing if you find out something is broken.... -Eli http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1111079431.jpg :) |
