engine temp. light

Its been a while, but its good to be back, i had a quick question, my engine temp. light flashes from time to time especially when the weather gets hot. I had the dealer check it out, and they said that it was a air bubble stuck in the system. They had tried to fix it but the light came back on. The dealer checked for any leaks, and the coolent level, but they said everything was fine.

I am kind of frustrated of seeing the red light flash when the weather gets hot.

A flashing light usually means that you are low on coolant.

Top the system up with water.

thank you for the advise, but up to where do you top it of, and doesn't adding water change the mixing ratio of the coolant?

I read all the results on a search under "coolant," where I found this thread. The consensus is to not use anything but Porsche coolant at 50-60% with DISTILLED water.

I put about a half pint of Shellzone antifreeze with another half pint of tap water in my system to top it off 2 weeks ago. Now I have the dreaded tank and/or cap problem. Probably not related, but I guess I need to replace some items.

My question is should I completely drain all the coolant and start over? It's 32,000 old. Which VW/Audi formulation is OK and is it significantly cheaper, or should I just bite it and buy the P-car stuff? How many qts?


BTW, shell says it's low silicate-ethylene glycol. I assume that this is relatively safe as silicates must be the compound that gels. Will a flush rid any gelling?

To top up I have used plain tap water for 6 plus years where I live. Have to add a cup or two about every 6 months. It does not get very cold and our water does not have a lot of stuff in it. My local dealer uses tap water. But distilled water is good.

If you do not have the new style blue cap that ends in 01 you should. It seals better. If the tank leaks it is a known problem.

Porsche has started selling coolant in 1 gallon jugs instead of just the 1 liter containers. It says made in the US and I hope to figure out who in the US is making it for Porsche.

A mechanic I know said you can mix the Porsche coolant with the Audi blue, but not pink. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1128614789.jpg

I read the coolant never need to be flushed unless of course there are problems. Is that correct?

Flushed or simply drained and new put in? AF Juvat says it does get old. I still need some more specific answers, if possible. Thanks.
