Supercharged Boxster

Anyone here heard much about the TPC supercharger kit? It sounds tempting but I'm really concerned about the extra stress on the bottom end. Any thoughts?

I've also been looking at these. I'm attaching an article that's worth reading, if you haven't already. http://www.pmletter.com/Topper.html.

From what I've learned so far, it's a pretty well designed/built bolt-on. Of course, I've also heard that any supercharger makes your engine sound like there's a vacuum cleaner sitting beside it.

I've contacted TPC and they got a quote of $5,700, + $1,000 more installed. I believe this included the ECU upgrade required. To get the full 300 hp, I think you also need to add a good header and exhaust kit, and upgrade air intake. I've also found their supercharger offered through 3rd parties, including this one for $5,495. Good picture on this site.

Recently I found a turbo kit that boasts 330 hp for a 2.5 liter Boxster; includes headers, intercooler, cylinder head machining, etc. (A wopping 420hp for a 3.2l -- WOW!) This sounds pretty impressive, but I'd guess the longevity of your engine will be a bit less than with the supercharger. I bet the turbo sounds awsome. However, I'm no expert. Hopefully someone out there with more know-how than I also replies to your posting.

Here's a link to the turbo kit company: TTP. http://www.ttp-sportscar.com/boxster.htm. I don't know much about this company, but from what I've seen, TCP is pretty reputable.

It'll probably be 2-3 yrs before I can afford to put another $10K--you'll want to upgrade the brakes as well--into my 99 Boxster, so I'll be very interested to find out what you do and how it works out for you.

Best of luck.
Ted

Just received a Performance Products catalog (51A) and in that they're only asking $4,995.95 for the TPC supercharger. Getting more tempting...

That's fantastic.

I didn't mean to be advertising on your BB for another company; I didn't even know you carried TPC supercharges. I guess it pays to ask.

With your reputation for excellent service and passion for Porsches, I know I'd prefer do business with Pelican over other companies.

Thanks Wayne.

We installed a TPC kit on a 98 Boxster. We dyno tested the car before and after the install (which took a LOT more time than the instructions or TPC offered it would) Net result? 25 hp in the mid range, 2-3 hp on the top end. Worth the $5k plus? You decide
Less than 20k mile later, this impeccably maintained Boxster lost it's piston rings. Was it the supercharger? hmmm......
Want more performance for your Boxster, sell it and go out and buy an S- yeah, it will hurt your monthly budget, but Porsche did it right

I recently purschased a 1997 Boxster W/ TPC Supercharger/K&N Air Filter/B&B Exhaust/B&B Headers. With boost at 6 PSI it puts down 260 HP to the wheels with 270 lb-ft of torque to the wheels. I am used to factory turbocharged cars and this is my first foray into a REALLY modded car (as in NEVER intended to operate like this from the factory). It definitely makes the car more frantic and less refined than I'm used to BUT, boy does it sure pull like a Carrera AND there's torque from 1K on up on the tach which is REDICULOUS! So far this car has gone over 12K miles with these mods. Hopefully it holds together for many more. So far, so good though--got it inspected and NO OIL LEAKS! I've had it for a 1K miles so far. Recommended if you want a unique car/different car and you want to go to shows but, you're probably better off from a cost standpoint in just getting a Boxster S unless you can buy a Boxster already modded this way as I did. Ride is worlds apart though and hella fun!

Nice picture, nice setting, very nice car. Saw the interior on the other thread. Sounds like a ball. BTW, how does it sound?

You will hear the k16 compressors when the spool, shouldn't be too much louder than the header/exhaust setup you have. 450hp I don't see why that would be out of the ballpark by any means. I used to have a biturbo audi and the amount of gains that can be made with turbos is insane. For instance with 2.7 litre engine and twin KO4's people were seeing 420+ HP and an equal amount of torque. The setup looks amazing btw:

I have the TPC kit on my 97 (all stock with a tip) but i never drove it without the supercharger so nothing to compare to but it seems to have great low end torque. i dont care for the big turbos on the street by the time they start making power its time to slow down but with this TPC kit the power is right there where you use it stop light to stop light. i live in denver (in the city) so to go fast on the interstate i would have to be atleast 15 miles out of town... and after all the track time i've had its not my thing to be driving much over 75 on public roads.

seemed simple enough to install but i did it with an engine swap. some of the pipes fit with about a quarter inch to spare (real tight) .
