turn signal replacement

Anyone have experience with replacing turn signal swith or a link to procedure? The auto cancel feature just stopped working in both directions. Is it replaceable by removing plastic covers in front of wheel or is like most older vehicles where you get to it from cavity in column after removing steering wheel? 98 Boxster. Thanks for any help.

Need to remove the steering wheel to get to it.
