Modified Top Relay for 986 - Enables Top to open close without being stopped $45.00
I have available for sale a OEM Porsche top relay part no:
986.618.199.00 I have modified it by bending over Pin 18. I have also bent over Pin 15 so you can ground it when installing the relay. By bending over Pin 18, it will enable you to open or close the top of the Boxster 986 without being stopped as long as you have the emergency brake engaged a click or two. By grounding Pin 15, you don't have to engage the emergency brake. Price is $45.00 which includes shipping to the Continental US, all other locations will have additional shipping. I accept paypal. I replaced this on my car with a SmartTop so I no longer need this. Thanks, Mike Navarro |
Those things have always scared me. I'm not the best at remembering (or "noticing" might be a better word) how fast I am going.

That's what makes the smartop so nice but it costs a whole lot more than the modified relay, the smartop won't let you start an operation of raising/lowering unless you are under 25 MPH. However, if you start one while you are at 15 MPH and accelerate to 50 MPH, it will continue to open/close, it doesn't automatically stop at 25 MPH.

i want this top module, how can i contact you
|
Thanks for your interest, but my post was over 3 years ago and I have no idea where that part is right now. If I happen to run across it, I"ll contact you, but I don't know where it's at right now.
Take care, Mike |
It's very easy to modify your own, I will have a tech article on this very soon...

You still need to park the car and do the "chop"...at least those of us with '02 or earlier!

Just ordered the book yesterday!!! My Boxster S 986 is in storage for the winter so I'm looking for fun projects for it! Thanks, Bill |
I failed to do the chop just once, and the next time I had the top up I noticed the damage. It was about 50 out and I had let the engine warm the top up for 12 miles. 6 years for the top that I've had it, 10 on the top maybe.
I post this to you all warning don't forget the chop if your top is one that needs it. |
...but don't end up like me, and chopping the top on a cold day- when I pressed the center part in to fold it correctly it cracked like brittle plastic right where I pushed on it.
Best advice: get a car with a glass window :/ |

I only drive my car in warm weather and would never think of putting the top down if at all cool out...I want to see how long this plastic can last (it's almost perfect after nearly nine years).
