Turbo Boxster Feasability??

Didn't RUF do a Boxster Turbo back a few years?

With older Boxsters becoming cheap what would it take for an experienced fabricator to do a turbo conversion?

What are the challenges that have prevented the Turbo Boxster to be more commonplace?

Are there packageing problems?

I don't know about a turbo, but ImagineAuto has a supercharger now available. http://www.imagineauto.com/index3.htm

Check with a company called TTP. They offer a 390 hp kit for a 3.2l

I think you might have better reliability with a 3.8 X51 motor transplant. Not sure what those run (I think FVD has one for around $25k installed), but I've heard some issues with turbo charging and supercharging some of the "street" motors. Something about the bearings not being strong enough to handle that kind of power? Not sure...but I definitely remember reading about it. An X51 3.8 motor will give you about 380 very reliable hp if I remember correctly. There might be ways to tweak some more out of it, but at least you'll have a stronger car this way.

There was an article on a boxter turbo in the August 2003 Excellence, issue #121.

Thanks Rich........I'm going to get that back issue. I know some people have installed the 996 motor in Boxsters and would like to know some of the challenges that would need to be overcome to fit the turbos, intercoolers, etc.

This may be of interest.
http://www.rufautocentre.com/conversions/Boxster.asp

No real specifics for the DIYer but it will yield 310 hp and maybe you can fit some 996 mods in there also?
