bad starter

i saw a really nice CHEAP boxster but has a bad starter. is there a easy way to find out it's bad? and is it the type that u can wack it with a wrench to get a few more starts out of it?

it's just like checking any other starter. and yes you can hit it with a wrench to get a few more starts out if it.

ps. i would check the ignition switch to see if that caused the starter to go bad
