Need some techy info one the shifter assembly

This applies to the 5 speed transmission.

I'm wondering if there is someone here who has the time to help me answer three tech questions on the shifter assembly. It's going to require the removal of the center console so you can see the actual shifter body and the cables as well.

Sitting in the drivers seat looking at the shifter you'll see two cables that control the transmission. The cable closest to you(left side) is the gate cable, the one on the right side is the gear select cable.

With the car in neutral(e-brake applied) you'll see the both cables are in a neutral position. Pushing the stick into a gear, say 3rd, moves the cables accordingly. When you push the stick into 3rd gear, you'll notice how the right side cable moves back into the sleeve housing(towards rear of car). On the left side of the shifter mechanism you should see a white plastic lever part, that moves when you move the shifter left or right. This part controls a little lever mechanism that operates the gate selection cable. Left is 1-2, center is 3-4, and pushing the stick to the right actuates the 5-R gate.

Here's what I need to know:

1)On the right side cable(gear select cable), I need to know how far the actual cable moves when you shift from a neutral position to 3rd gear. I think you can mark the metal portion of the cable at a fixed point like the sleeve housing while in neutral, then move the stick to 3rd and measure from that marker line to the sleeve housing edge again.

2)Next one is I need to know what direction the left cable(gate select) moves when you pull the stick over to the left(for 1st or 2nd gear). It's either going to move forward or backwards.

3) Finally I need to know how far the gate cable(left side cable) travels when moving from the neutral position to the 1-2 gate selection(pulling to the left side). I'd imagine you can do the same thing as the first measurement to get this one.

I'm working on a custom shifter mechanism here for my kit car(using boxster transmission) and need to know how far the gate mechanisms move in the stock shifter when hooked up to the actual transmission. I don't have the tranny here to test this myself and won't have it for quite some time yet, nor the physical shifter body from a 5 speed boxster.

Thanks in advance to any help with this little matter here.
