Boxster hard top

Picked up a used hard top and need to paint to match. Ideally I would like to remove as much as possible to make it look like it would from the factory, but am concerned about plastic clips, etc that hold the trim panels on. Anyone BTDT? Next stop is Porsche PET to see if there is an exploded view.

When I bought spin-locks for my second Boxster I remember having a discussion with the salesman there about the hard tops and how common it is for them to be repainted w/o removing trim, etc. Just tape and paint. Unless you plan on using the hard top year 'round, I would just go that route. Otherwise that's a lot invested for a part time part.

Just my $.02 of course!

Doug - thanks, that's what I was originally going to do, but then when I got it home today and started looking, I thought maybe it'd be worth the effort. I'm most concerned about getting good coverage at the leading edge of the top. Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Your method would certainly be a better quality job! And I don't mean to discourage quality by any means.

I think the jist I got from the conversation with the salesman was that an "average" paint job would be more than sufficient. I don't remember mine getting much abuse during it's time.

Going to document this here in the event some one in the future is looking to find out where the screws and clips on the hard top is located.

Driver side of the top.

Removal of side window weather stripping.

Next you need to remove the side trim.

Then the front trim.

This allows you to get to the screws holding the leading edge of the weather stripping. Side seals and front seal appear to be one continuous piece.

Photo missing.

Foam is pieces held in place by double sided tape. Removed after both spin lock levers were removed.

Rear window trim piece.

I've read the rear window has at least one glue edge, so I am not removing that. Also decided that although it appeared easy enough to remove the headliner, that I was going to leave it in place and mask.
