Salvage report from carfax

Hi -

I am in the proces of purchasing an 02 Boxster w/ 32K miles. Car is fine, title is clear but the carfax report shows accident in the past & was declared salvaged. Final price is set at $11K. Is this worth the purchase? Thanks for your input.

you need to dig deeper. The carfax says the car was salvage but you say it now has a 'clear' title. Sounds fishy. Salvage titled cars usually never return to clean titles without some illegal shuffling as far as I know. The only advantage to a salvage car I can think of is turning it into a dedicated track car. If you buy it and try and sell it later, you will no doubt have a problem getting a price for the car.
If you think you want it, have the car PPI'd and not just engine/trans, you need a body shop that car look the chassis over for damage repair as well as tell tales of flood or other damage. Be thorough and careful.

The title was likely washed through some sort of state-line switcharoo shenanigans. I would have a complete PPI done and maybe even have it put on a rack to check for twist. I had an acquiantance who used to "restore" salvaged sports and luxery cars and use them as trade-ins b/c private party folks would look too closely and dealers usually don't.
