expected engine life

Have read Mike Focke's Boxster stuff.
I am looking at boxsters, some have 90K miles. Are there many ones after 1999 that have 150K miles? The local independent shops do not know.
Thanks

Garage
I have seen a few used ones advertised with 150 thousand miles. So I would assume they will last at least that long.

b moe,

Im sure that you know of the common problems of the early 986 and 996 engines as I see you are looking for 99-and up cars where there are less problems.

I have seen several boxsters from 99 to 01 with 150-190k miles, personaly my 2.5l 97 boxster has 134k miles.. i have other issuse with the car as with any high mileage car such as suspension and brakes that wear out. But the engine runs just like it did new.

As long as you take care of the engine, no racing, synthetic oil regulary, replace the spark plugs, run fuel injector cleaner through the engine, and have your scheduled maintence.. the damn thing will easily run 200k miles (excuse me if im forgetting anything)

Sure there are

Know of a 2002 2.7 in CA with 200k plus on it. Many 99s are well over 100k by now, lots at 150k plus. And if a 97 or 98 is priced right and has 90k, I wouldn't turn away from it. It is well past the infant mortality point where they tended to have problems with early build engines. Many of these cars have had their engines replaced by now due to problems unique to the early built engines.

All cars with 90k plus have problems of what I call auxiliaries failures. Water pumps, alternators, etc. It is just wear and tear and will happen to cars of this age more frequently than to cars with lots less miles. But there is nothing in the Porsche design that says they have big problems going lots of miles if treated right (frequent oil changes, fluids other wise maintained to spec, etc).

Many Boxsters are in better shape at 90k than other cars because they have been owned by people who care about the car.
