elusive ticking noise

Ok, I have this ticking noise coming from the drivers side of the motor. You cannot hear it from the outside, just when you are sitting on the inside.
It does not tick at startup or when it is cold. It does not tick all the time. I usually hear it when I slow down and come to a stop light. If i rev the car up real quick, when it returns to idle it is gone, but sometimes it comes back and sometimes it does not.
It sounds exactly like a valve ticking, but I cannot figure it out. Its too intermittent.
Any ideas?

Just guessing, but.... it could be a hydraulic lifter sticking intermittently. If it were me, I would start by changing the engine oil and oil filter. I wonder if there is some special porsche (Wurth) oil additive that might help?

Perhaps someone that know what they are talking about will chime in here.

Anyway... best of luck, and keep us posted.

The last posters info is good in that you should change the oil as he specified.

Should the noise still be present have someone check the Camshaft deviation on bank 1 and 2. These should be as close to 0 as possible. The drivers side Bank 2 may show a high number but less than 8 since the CEL is not on. This can be from the Vario Cam Tensioner pucks being worn.

There are other possibilities however the lifters and the Vario Cam Tensioners are common.

Best Regards,
Scott Slauson
