How much is it worth ??

How much is a 98 Boxter with 192k plus miles worth ? white /red with one of the rear mesh missing. everything works, seats show wear and a little tear, rear window need replacement, tires ok. Top electric motor works.
Thanks for any feed back,

regards , Peter

Well obviously under $10k. I would guess in the $5k - $7k range? Not sure what a "parts car" is worth in the Boxster family.

At almost 200k miles, you kinda have to accept that just about anything can go wrong. Not that it will go wrong, but can. So you have to decide how much it's worth to you if you end up needing a big ticket item like a motor or...well that's pretty much the big ticket item.

Sounds like it could be a great driving project. Talk to Flat6Innovations about rebuilding the motor...work on improving the interior (seats)...get a new (aftermarket) top with glass rear window...could be a very nice car.

Doug , I see you have a few Boxters, which is in your opinion the better year model mechanically ? I would like to find someone that would trade for my Mustang GT. Thanks for your feed back, cheers Peter

Had. I miss them all. My favorite was the '01 for sure. Really when it comes to Boxsters, it's the newer the better IMO (lots of subtle improvements over the years). And an "S" is best. But if what attracts you to Boxsters is getting in at a lower initial cost, the early 2.5 models are just groovy.

My brother had an '03 that, sadly, he traded rather impatiently when the Cayman S came out. If he could have waited five months I'd have bought it from him. If I had, I'd still have that one today.

FWIW I've sold them to move on to another Porsche, and a couple of years ago I "emptied my stable" in anticipation of a move to the PNW. When that got put on hold, I bought the '74 911 because it was a deal too good to pass up. I like it, but the reality is I'm probably the only person who drives a 911 because he can't afford a Boxster.

(..ok, the one that I want..)

Thanks, Doug , I LOVE my 911, I think that a Boxter would be more of a city, every day type car, I still love my 911 for extended road trips. If I could only get rid of the Mustang, not give it away just trade it/sell it ?
thanks again,

I had an '84 and an '88 911 coupe and I loved them both. Yet, ironically, sold them each for Boxsters. I've gone back and forth as to which ones I like (early 911 v Boxster). Ideally, and hopefully one day soon, I'll have one of each. The Boxster is definitely a better car for the daily grind. But you may be surprised at how often you find a preference for it.

For sure I would be happier if my 911 were of the 3.2 variety. But this old '74 has its charms. But the reality of my life doesn't have a lot of time for "charms"...so right now I'd rather have a Boxster. But after buying this 911 I promised myself I'd stop selling / buying until I can afford them both. Plus, I got married in the '74 last Fall. So it's a keeper.

Good luck with your Mustangotomy. Selling "fun" cars has got to be a beyoch these days.

Cheers
