Thinking about buying a '99 with 120k miles
I'm thinking about picking up in a '99 with a bunch of miles (120,000) as a fun street car / summer daily driver. I have no illusion about the fact that it will probably need some work, but I have a backup vehicle, and I'm not afraid of turning wrenches... I've done just about every job possible on quite a number of 944's, and I've gotten deep into some other makes as well, but I have no Boxster-specific experience yet. What unique items should I watch out for on a Boxster with that many miles? What should I expect to break or wear out? Are the more catastrophic 986/996 engine failures fairly rare these days?
Thanks!

When the car has that many miles
It is all about the maintenance it has received. Any of the wear items (clutch, rotors) could have been replaced at 50k or 100k, the difference would matter.
Any history available on the car? I've known Boxsters with 220k miles on them running reliably and taken on 5k mile trips. Major failures rare? Yes. But they do happen and can happen on any car at any mileage. Yours is well beyond infant mortality. You may find this useful. |

Take a good look at the suspension. It is usually in need of something around 100K.
