Asking for assistance from a 911 Carrera owner (forgive me..)

I've not posted in this group before, not having owned a Boxster. But AM a previous (multi) P-car owner, from the previous vintages,..at present an '89 911 Carrerra S.A. Edition.....which I love dearly. I treasure this Pelican board, and all that it provides me for my car (saving $$$). That said:

I've a son-in-law who's become quite attentive to my needs with my 89 and loves this car. He happens to be a certified T (Toyota) wrench who's paid complete attention to my (Porsche) required details when we work on the car...Proven to have been a great engagement.......thus far.

At his dealership, he's faced with the following (and thought you guys' may have some input...my schedule this evening doesn't permit a thorough search so I will take the chance by just "throwing it our there",...on his behalf:

2002, Boxster S, No reverse. Can't get it,...when he can,..it's quite difficult.

2003, Boxster S,....draining coolant fluid,..apparently out of "drain tube", (I'm told). I'm told it drains heavily with revs......and will overheat with time.

Any ideas, of immediacy? Does one need a special scanner to read ALL conditions that have happened within the car?

I can relate (all day) to my '89 but would be a fruitless cause,..as they're so different.

So,..please beg the questions, if you will. (I appreciate anyone's patience).

Best,

Doyle

Some guesses

Change from the center storage has gotten loose and is into the shift linkage. R&R the center console and review the shift linkage.

Look and see if there is a leak where the filler/overflow tank in the trunk contacts the engine. Known weakness. Replace tank.

I'm told the leak was due to an innattentive tech on the cao reseat (yeap,..there's sticker for that (FAH!)

Bushing toook care of the shift issues,....they've some very ggod specimans (now) of 2001/2003 Boxster S ('s)....good looking cars...) I hope to get one for this eekend to taste for a few days,..will give me reference for my 89..

I've not yet driven' one,..so this is my learning (ir is it "relevance"?) experience......luckily, I have 'em both at my hands.

Thanks, guys, for all the input on the H20 stuff,..I'm SOOOOO removed from this (as practical as it may seem),..within the "porsche world".....thanks again for everyone's input.

Best to all,

Doyle

Send the cars up to me in piedmont at european motorcars, we'll knock it out asap and if you care to learn, we'll diag. the problem quick and get it fixed faster and show you how to figure some of this stuff out if you'd care to hang around and watch.
