97 Boxster driver's window issue
Hi,
My 1997 Boxster driver's side window gets sort of stuck on the outside of the frame where it should fit snugly inside the frame when the door is closed. I have to push the window down about a half inch before closing the door so that it will securely raise up into the frame underneath the edge of the cloth top. The windows work properly other than that and it's almost like it needs an adjustment of sorts. The window is supposed to lower a slight amount when the outside door handle is engaged and it seems to not want to do this. Does anyone know what I can do about this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! |

Your window regulator is probably worn...
Just to confirm.. when you're in the car and door is closed and you pull the handle.. the window should drop about 1/2 inch to clear the top. If it doesn't and it "catches" the upper rubber.. it's the window regulator that is worn out. There is a cable in there connected to a motor that lowers and raises the window when you pull the handle. Not uncommon to have it stretch and wear out. A new one can be had from dcauto.com and can be installed in about 1 to2 hours. INstructions are online. Alternatively, if the door is open and you pull the outside handle and the window drops 1/2 inch.. it is the lock mechanism in the door and a bad switch. Normally the window SHOULD NOT drop at all when the door is open and you pull on the outer door handle. Had both things above go on my boxster.
