Sudden decreased range in door lock/unlock

Saturday, I couldn't unlock the car, 2000 Boxster. I thought the battery in the remote was bad, LED looked good. A meter read 3.01 V.
Finally, I tried the remotes all over the car. When I got close, to the drivers window, it finally worked. Both remotes now only work right near the car. Seems to be the sensors at the top of the windshield. Anyone else have this problem?
I do not have a scanner.
New batteries in the remotes do not improve this either.

thanks
