engine light questions....shop in Nashville, TN

All,
I need your help. My father has a 2000 Boxster, and he went out for a drive a couple days ago and noticed the engine light was on. Took it to a shop, they said it just needed to be "blown out a little" due to his not driving it often. He took it for a spirited drive, light is still on.

He then took it to a Porsche shop, they said a fan on the engine needed to be replaced....$1200!
(they also offered to buy the car..low miles and a pristine car)

Both of us know very little about a Boxster.

Can anyone point us in the right direction on the fan or a reputable shop in Nashville TN.

Thanks for any help.

I would call JPA of Nashville and ask for Todd Harville. He is head of the Porsche service division. They do my service.

If for some reason they jerk you around, then please let me know as I am good freinds with the GM there.
