Additional heater in Cayman
 

I'm planning to buy a Cayman 2,7 for daily driving. A Webasto or Eberspächer heater is for me a minimum requirement in a car used daily.

The additional heater would first of all be used for warming up the motor as well the coupe, ½-1 h before I go into the car and start to drive. At home I have nowadays my cars in a warm garage, but when I leave the car outside somewhere in the winter, a Webasto or Eberspächer with a timer & remote control is very nice, especially when the temperature is far below 0 degrees Celsius.

Webasto and Eberspächer are as far as I know not recommended by Porsche. Additionally to Cayman, at least 997, most 996 and latest Boxters are concerned. However, many seem to install the heaters anyway.

If authorized Porsche Experts say it is not recommended, I respect this very much. On the other hand, I have a hard time to accept that these additional heaters are "bullet proof" devices in Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi... but not in many modern Porsches; risks for disturbances in Porsche's electrical system or wherever disturbances may occur.

Experiences or opinions?
Is there a workaround for minimizing risks for malfunctions?

Sounds like you've reached a very small audience. Not sure what the temp extremes are in Finland, but I imagine most in the US and Canada keep the Porsches in the garage and not used frequently.

Haven't heard of anyone using an auxillary heater in a Modern car. When i was a kid we had one in our VW bus but, c'mon, that cabin was huge and aircooled motors don't make heat quick enough. The Cayman/Boxster cabin is so small, I'm not sure I'd want more heat.

I drive my boxster every day here in norway, temp is from 0 celcius to -15 most of the winter.. and my back plastic window is cracked, so cold air fills the car fast after i park.. I was thinking of getting myself a DEFA Warm-up, a product they sell here in norway, and i guess at least the rest of scandinavia too.. Don't think the battery will get tapped so much, left it undriven for 14 days outside in the cold, started right up.. but then again i havent read any porsche-recomandations.. what could go wrong with an engine-warmer?
