Porsche Crest Boxster 5 speed transmission used with a3.8l engine

Can Any one tell me if it Is possíble to use the Stock 5 speed transmission with a 3.8l engine. The transmission is the original one that câme with the 97 boxster. The engine is a custom built 3.8l.

As long as the 3.8 isn't a DFI engine. When they went DFI the bell housing bolt pattern changed.

Now longevity of that gearbox is going to be another thing. If you can find and afford a 6spd you'll be much better off.

Another question:
Will any 6 speed couple up with the 3.8; what modification should I be aware of.
Could I change the gear ratios and continue using the 5 speed?
What is the issue with the 5 speed longevity?

5speed trans don't last long behind 3.4L or larger.

Just a suggestion - before you fit the used 6 speed - fit new pinion bearings and check/replace the dog teeth on 2nd gear. Lots of info. on this issue here and other similar Forums.

What other parts besides the transmission is involved in switching from a 5-speed to a 6-speed?
