Brake pad install.
Getting ready to put new front and rear brake pads on my wife's 2002 Boxster. according to the Bentley manual it appears straight forward but does show a caliper spreader. Do I need this tool? Can I use something else? Any other tips will help, thanks Lenny.

Hi there. You can use a simple stick of wood or the handle of a wooden hammer. Check out my tech article here on the replacement process:

I use 2 box end wrenches. I slide them down between the brake pads and slowly compress the pistons back in.

Great, You know, doing this types of maintenance on your Porsche just makes you feel good. The Boxster is not all that hard to work on...a little tight in some areas but not all that bad. I just replaced the AOS and I did it from the top. Since this was the first time replacing one, I took my time, about 3 hours in all. Now with that behind me, it would now take about a 1 1/2 hours total.
