GT3 seats added to car auto mirror adjust feature question??

Hi all,

I have asked this question on other less technical forums and never found the answer. One year ago I replaced the stock seats in my 01S with the 996 GT3 one piece seats. Out came the stockers with all of the electronic control units.

Question is does anyone know if the auto mirror lowering feature when placing the car in reverse was controlled by the seat modules? I would assume it did but want to make sure. Only thing I miss after changing the seats!

Thanks for your help.

I would think that putting a car in reverse (ie, a microswtich near/with the gearshift) would make more sense to control the mirrors to move downe, than a seat control, no? Although, the wiring of new cars boggles me, so anything is possible. I actually don't like that feature. i prefer to twist around and SEE whats behind me.. not just what's sitting at curb level.

Totally agree too much technology that I don't trust like my own eyes. To me it is just insurance for my wheels when I parallel park. I usually adjust this feature to look down at a curb rather than as intended.

Yes, I'm 99% sure that you are correct. I have two Boxsters, one with power / memory seats, and one without. The one with the power/memory seats moves the mirror down when in reverse, the other one doesn't. If you install the control module back in, then you will probably regain this functionality.

The reason why this is controlled by the seat module is because the memory not only remembers the location of the seat elements, but also how you have the two mirrors adjusted.

Hope this helps,

Wayne
