bump

Anyone know if this can be done? I bought a 2002 S muffler and want to put it on my 99 2.5...just wondering if there will be any fitment issues before jumping into the switch...just like the look and sound of the s better....
thanks if anyone has tried this before...

I think that they do.

Aftermarket exhausts often do no discern between the 986 and 986S, implying that they mount the exact same,

They do not mount the same, but you can make them work. The Boxster S muffler has studs on the top that point vertically - the Boxster muffler has a mount that mounts horizontally. You can either buy a bracket or fabricate one. If you look at Wayne's exhaust article, it shows the difference and a sample mount.

To clarify, it will bolt up to the cats without modification, it will not bolt up to the car without adapters.

I have a 2.5 muffler from a '98 Boxster - if you want to pay shipping (or want to pick it up in Omaha), it's yours.

The Boxster 'S' muffler that we had for our 2000 non-S bolted up direct. So, the more direct statement would be that anything 2000 and later needs adapters to fit the early (1999 and earlier) cars.
