Pelican's and LN's IMS kits are different. In design, quality of bearing materials, lube method, seals and number of vehicles with the kit installed.

Where are you from?

Just curious.

I believe the pelican kit from Wayne is not available yet; it is still in testing.

As Wayne mentioned in prior posts, his kit is not the quality of the LN replacement and will need to be changed with each clutch job. This would likely increase the overall cost for the owner long term, if they keep their car.

911ballin has read these posts and continues to knock LN Engineering for their work, research and mistaken belief that they get rich off these mods.

The LN Engineering kit includes a custom-designed bearing end-plate cover plus the custom-made ceramic bearing which significantly adds to the cost. Our Pelican IMS kit does not contain either one of these.

The Pelican kit is still in testing - preliminary results are very good. We had to take the test car out of service because we're tearing it apart for some articles for the upcoming 996 book. I estimate the Pelican kit will be available in December or January.

At this time we will continue to use the LN Engineering IMS bearing kit until it can be proven there is a BETTER, not cheaper, option for my customers.

Laura, Hergesheimer MotorSports

We will see what Pelican will have to offer.

We're recommending to check the bearing in four to five years or 50-60k miles as a precaution, as we've only had our ceramic bearings in service for about three years now. To date, we've had zero issues or failures of the ceramic bearings or any retrofit kits and prior evidence would suggest that there should be zero issues with the bearings provided.

It is our plan to re-evaluate this recommendation in another year or two and we expect our IMS solutions to be permanent fixes not requiring replacement during a reasonable lifetime of an M96/M97 engine.

The Porsche engineers chose the bearing that fails and the seal design that fails and the lube design that fails. And you want to use the same design/parts to save a few hundred on something you may not even have to do ever again (but even in the worst case would do when you next change the clutch) because Porsche chose it? Oh..and that is an inspection and not a definite parts replacement so the added cost at 4-5 years or 50-60k miles may well be only for the inspection costs.

And you'd choose a design that had been installed in one test car for a few months as "proof of concept" versus one that has hundreds of installations and several years of use with zero failures?

Because you begrudge a profit made by a parts supplier with a low volume product who had many months and test cars worth of development before he sold his first one.?

Good luck.

I wish MM nothing but the best of luck. I hope there are enough people like 911ballin to keep them busy.

I'm sure Wayne's retrofit will be priced to compete with MM's and will be of superior quality (and integrity). Read into that however you'd like :-)

And no one every stated or claimed a lifetime warranty. One would be foolish to make such a claim, especially based on the fact that you're working with a flawed intermediate shaft designed by Porsche and you're limited to working within those constraints.

That's beside the point. Anyone who knows me knows that I would go above and beyond to help someone if they have a problem, warranty be damned. A warranty is just a piece of paper.

Wow.

I have installed the LN kit and would highly recommend it. Mr Navarro and his company offer post sale service, return phone calls, support forum users such as us. They saw a need in the porsche marketplace and engineered a repair for us.

Let's see you take a new product to market, pay up-front for the engineering, production runs, and overhead of running a business, and see if you can bring a cheaper, quality product to (a limited) market. Believe me, if the profit margin was large, and the product was simple to bring to market, and there was a bigger demand, there would be other vendors.

Chuck, thanks for providing a quality product. I'll be buying another for my son's car this fall.

I'd google MotorMeister's reputation before I'd suggest them as a parts designer, supplier.

Holy smokes!

Can 911balling's posts be harder to read?

I do not begrudge LNE for the pricing of the IMS upgrade. I had it done this spring and have slept my soundly ever since. Top notch service, if a bit long because of over-the-border deliveries here to Canada.

I respect the work that went into this IMS kit, and I also like the way in which LNE conducts themselves and the respect that they give their customers and our choice in automobiles. That is why I bought from them directly.

Since then, my mechanic has done a bunch. He is an old school Porsche mechanic and seen them come and go, and he agrees, LNE is worth their weight.
