Romulus exhaust

I am looking at a 2001 Boxster S w/ Romulus exhaust. Can anyone give me any info on this exhaust system in terms of sound & horsepower vs. stock. I am selling an '83 Targa & wanted to move to a more wife friendly car & this looks like a good trade up.

If you are acutally refering to the "Remus" system, it is drone prone, over priced and produces no more HP than the OEM system (basically, none of the aftermarket systems seem to do any better than the OEM, some actually reduce HP).............

Exhaust

According to Google, Romulus was the early name for what is now the Remus exhaust. I was concerned about drone in the cabin. Some of the user reviews put it at barely louder than stock. I did not need anything more than stock but since it is on the car did not want it to be a detriment to the driving experience. The other car I am considering is a 2006 350Z. It has about 50 more HP but is also almost 500 lbs. heavier. Any opinions on the two different cars?

Two entirely different vehicles; you need to drive each hard to understand how they are different. The Z is heavier and perhaps a better for long distance touring; the Boxster is lighter, tighter, and a better handler. You might choose one for an hours ride down a twisty road, the other to drive from NYC to LA in.............

When we were looking we test drove a Z, Z4, SLK, Boxster and Boxster S.
The Boxster S won hands down IMHO.
We bought the car with Euro delivery and spent 2 weeks in Europe and i can telll you that the car had plenty of room. Far more thant the other choices.
Don't know about the exhaust....

The Boxster 'S' is a superbly handling car. Really, Porsche got it almost perfect with this car. I think maybe a tad bit more HP and an adjustable suspension would have made it better than the 996/997 easily (this is what I built my project Boxster into, for the 101 Projects book). The stock 'S' is perfectly balanced: engine/suspension/brakes. Rare find in a car.

jdawg, I live right down the road from you and believe I test drove the car. Absolutely beautiful color, I really wanted the car, it has heated and full power seats. Unfortunately the window had just cracked and I took it on the highway and it shook really bad, it either needs an alignment or a control arm (or arm link) needs to be replaced. The guy was super nice and loves his car and wasn't going to budge on price, I tried to tell him to get it checked out so he could sell it. Not slaming the guy, just thought I would give my experience...if not the same car then sorry for the reply, I only saw one car within 250 miles with Rumulus exhaust (and it was spelled Rumulus). Nice nice sound, it was pleasant a low speed and light throttle and badass above 4500! Highway sound wasn't annoying that I can remember, don't think I had the top up though

Anyway, drop me an email, I looked at every car almost from Charlotte to Raleigh to Asheville. I also had one guy drop his price $3000 because I told him I had made a handshake on another car, which I had and bought .

I drove 1 of the first 350Z in 2003 without the track pack & was able to eliminate it from consideration due to ride comfort & huge blind spots. Boxster mirrors virtually eliminate blind spots & I have driven mine 1500 miles in 1 day as a testament to ride quality. Oh almost forgot Understeer was very bad on 2003 350Z although I think later models are improved>

rumulus exhaust

WhipE350, that is the car. I emailed him last nite & he mentioned the back windshield had cracked & he had also decided to keep the car. That may be due to the fact I told him my bank would only loan 17K on the car & I had asked him to consider a lower price. Let me know if you know of other comparable cars in the area. I would really love to have another Porsche & think the Boxster S is the car for me but my Porsche guy used to work @ a Z shop & he said he thought the 350Z would give me just as much enjoyment w/ a much lower cost of ownership. I would hope the handling would be close w/ the Z engine mounted behind the front axle giving a 57/43 weight distribution. All input is appreciated as I am looking @ a Grand Touring Roadster Wed. nite & want to purchase within a couple of weeks.

jdawg, let me try again...timed out and lost my response
Doesn't surprise me he didn't sell. Anyway, there is a 2002 50k miles up in Salem VA (near Roanoke I think), only car I wish I had driven, I think the guy was Kevin. I was a little concerned cause it sounded like it was only driven really short trips to work each day, but he was a porsche guy and had it serviced well, he was buying a Cayman. There was another one in Fort Mill with real low mileage, but it was blue (not my favorite) with tan and had a lot of city dings which I didn't feel like fixing. The guy dropped $3000 when he found out I found another car.
Nissan, well strong engines and great repair records. I think the Z is clunky though and it isn't a Porsche . My son is a bmw guy and has driven a lot of new Zs that his friends have and well he uses much stronger words then I do ... but then he is in love with BMW.
So I live in Midland, 20 mins from you, if you haven't driven an S you are welcome to try mine, you are a Porsche owner so I'm not concerned. Keep in touch we'll find you a good one. Oh also I got my car too cause I love working on them and what I've learned over the last 5 weeks is they are easy to maintain.
