Boxster S Muffler

Hey everyone. I've got a 2003 Boxster S and just love it I have installed the cat bypass pipes and the cold air intake and was looking for suggestions on replacing the muffler. Looking for more sound and also too drop some weight - car, although I'm sure I could afford to lose a pound or two myself! I, of course like most people don't want to spend too much money and want a simple solution without replacing anything else. Any suggestions or experiences?
Thanks in advance.....

I've had a Borla catback now for about 2 months and I really like it. It is loud, but moreso on the outside of the car than inside I believe. Not raspy at all, very deep tone.

It is the lightest exhaust I could find short of straight pipes. It's just two stainless glasspacks with some U-pipes and nice tips. It weighed about 20 lbs, whereas I weighed the stock muffler at 45 lbs.

The fabspeed is regarded as one of the best sounding mufflers here, but is also rather expensive and weighs more I believe.

My favorite solution was to either use the PSE or a custom-built one. Before I put the 3.4 in, I had a custom-made PSE that I LOVED the sound of. I had to install an NHP muffler for the conversion, and it is frankly louder than I prefer.

I still have the PSE in the garage - if you might be interested, PM me. If it fit with my conversion, it would definitely still be in the car, and I can let it go for a lot less than an aftermarket muffler.

I had the stainless Dansk sport muffler on my Boxster for a while - I liked the sound, but we instead went with the FabSpeed setup for when we installed the 3.4 996 engine. I've got an article on the FabSpeed exhaust here: Pelican Technical Article: Installing a Performance Boxster Exhaust System - 986 / 987

and also an article on the Dansk install here: Pelican Technical Article: Boxster Muffler Replacement - 986 / 987

Hmm, I do have all of the parts from the book piled in my storage area in the back room. I think I still have this muffler back there, and I have no use for it right now. If I have time, I will take a look tomorrow and see if I can find it.

This is the setup that works for me, along with secondary cat bypass pipes. Nice sports sound, not too loud and no drone or resonance. Simple for any welder to work up, though I purchased mine complete.

That's the sport muffler sound modification, as performed by Pedro. Not exactly an easy DIY project (stainless steel welding involved), but a creative approach: Make the Pedro Sport Exhaust

Yes, very similar; however, mine was modified by a company named "Oettle-Tuning" out of Germany and shipped overseas. Installation was quite simple and it looks neat behind the rear bumper valance.
