Existing calipers
 

I have a 1999 Boxster. Can the break calipers be painted? if so, what kind of paint recommended. I'd like to paint them Red or Yellow. My car is Silver.

I painted mine using Duplicolor high temp engine paint. A couple recommendations:

Don't use the brush-on stuff - if it's too hot/cold, humid/dry, etc., it will look terrible - looks a lot better if you spray.

If you want it to say Porsche on the calipers, use cutouts and white Duplicolor - don't use stick-on decals. They will come off. Mine did.

The calipers won't be shiny unless you spray clear over the top of them. This is kind of tricky, since the underlying paint is pretty slick. I could never get good results with the clear, so mine are just kind of flat black. Others may have suggestions about this.

Also, it makes a big difference, in my opinion, if you take the calipers off the car.

Our host sells a kit, which I used and found it to work well. Be sure to paint them outside as the fumes are really bad. As a side note, they get dirty quickly, and I am not sure it was really worth the trouble, but they do look nice when they are clean.

I agree with steve to take them off the car. Rebuild them while you are at it.

I also have a silver '99 and the red calipers look awesome! I get more compliments about those than almost anything else (the PORSCHE side stripe is the winner there).

Th painted calipers don't get any dirtier than your wheels, just give them a quick wipe when you clean the wheels. Mine came painted by the guy who owned the car before me so I can't give you any advice on how to do it but I can say that you'll like the look if you do.

I used VHT Caliper Paint Red, it's almost an exact match, decals I got from the internet, then several thins coats of Rust-Oleum Clear Engine Enamel.

I preferred the VHT color over the other brands. I tried a stencil too but couldn't find white caliper paint, the white paint i tried was too sticky/strechy and made a mess. I'm sure if I had some better paint they would have worked.

The decals I got are really nice and I haven't had a problem yet since I coated them with clear engine enamel. If you want the decal source just let me know. They are like $8 for 7 of them.

WOW! Those look really nice, very professional looking job.
I would like to know where the decals came from, as I plan to do my calipers this spring.

I ordered from some site on the internet and I can't remember what the url is,, but I got an email saying that my order will come from jamieyates@hotmail.com. Paypal payment went to Jamie Calnan. The decals came in a little box from Livonia NY. They were $7.99 for 6 with $1 for shipping. I would just send email to that account and see if you can do direct business or ask for a website they work with. They are really well made, I was pleased.

The stencils came from Eagleday. If someone can suggest a good paint they likely would work too.
