Oil level indication strangeness?

Hello all,
From what I have gathered, the oil level indication is supposed to stay on the digital display in my 2001 Boxster after it sits for like 20 minutes. For how long is it supposed to stay displayed? Mine seems to just pop up for a couple seconds and then goes away - making it difficult to concentrate on where it ends up. Is that right?

Thank you again for your time.

Scott

Same on my '01, although it does appear longer if I turn on the key and leave it there without actually starting the car.

My oil is always so clean and clear that it's very difficult to check the oil with the dipstick! I wish they had made the dipstick plastic tip a different color! Mine appears to be a tannish-brown! Just stupid.

My '99 does this count down thing and then the level is displayed for a few sec's and then its gone too. I use it for a casual check but use the dip stick weekly to get a hard measurement.

And I agree with Steve986, you'd think that they'd make the darn stick easier to read!

on a paper towel and the oil on the dipstick, though clear, leaves a mark on the paper so I can see the oil level as I roll the dipstick so the marks on the dipstick are visible and lined up with the paper oil stain .

Thanks for the scoop! My apologies for not having posted this sooner.
I'll give the "roll" technique a go the next time I fill up!
