986 rear knocking sound
Hello all,
This is the first time posting on this site, but being a new Porsche owner I have now visited these forums over a hundred times. I seem to be having two issues so far with my 2002 boxster, 1) the CEL light is indicating codes 1128 and 1130, ive read a few times that it can either be a loose hose or a MAF sensor failure not sure if this is correct or not. 2) there is a LOUD knocking sound coming from the rear of the vehicle, I read it can possibly be the CV boots, had my mechanic look at them and said they seem to be fine. What he did notice was a rivet loose on the driver side of the heat shield that sits beneath the motor. when shaking the shield it seems to make almost the identical sound that i hear driving over bumps and what not. Just curious to know if anyone has had these problems before, and if so what was done to fix it. I appreciate any help i can get. |

Welcome to the world of miscellaneous boxster noises. Address the codes first as they are telling you of problems. Put her on a lift and shake parts and hit some with rubber hammers. That is how we found that my primary cat internals were shot and rattling. When does the noise occur? On bumps, on throttle, when hot/cold, on startup? Where is it coming from, underneath by rear wheels/engine, behind seats, top?
If you are like me, once you get rid of the noise, you will enjoy the car much more. I am down to door/window thumps only now, all other noises have been put to rest. (for me-wheel bearing, brake sensor, primary cat internal, rear shock mount, convertible top, front strut).
